Our Public International Law Expertise

Strachan is one of only a small number of providers who offer dedicated public international law capabilities to both the private and public sectors. Our services involve:

  • Human rights analysis: We assist when drafting legislation or during law reform negotiations with government
  • Investor / State investment treaty disputes: We assist in trade disputes, with a focus on legislative interventions said to be justified on grounds related to public order, national security, public health and the need to regulate the “digital commons”.

Our principal is one of only a small number of private sector practitioners experienced in this area. He has:

  • Prepared or advised on multiple human rights impact statements across a range of contentious and significant legislative proposals.
  • Advised international companies on potential breaches of free trade agreements
  • Advised international organisations on their consular and diplomatic privileges and immunities.
